Okay, so as most of you know, I now have a Shock Trooper costume as well.  Yea, I know... I'm trying to perfect two costumes at once, which is why I'm holding off on getting yet another costume until I finish Vader and this one.  lol

I have read on the clonetrooper forum that Thire is not an "approved" costume?  I guess that's because when he appears in Episode 3 there is no difference between him and the other Shock Troopers.  But I've found pictures of him with him having all the "usual" commander gear.

So I'll be looking for a red kama that is the same tint of red as the red on the ST.  I guess since my ST is heavily weathered, it would need to be weathered as well.  I'll also need a pauldron, that again, is the same tint as the rest of the armor.  The problem with all this is, I only see one reference photo of him like this... (I posted it under the GML welcome thread, and it can also be viewed under wookiepedia-commander thire).  Also the ammo belt looking thing that is under his right arm, and the twin blasters.

I believe the blasters and the holsters are the same as the ones on Rex, so Joey, if you could help out and let me know where you got those.  The kama and pauldron might be the same type, just different colors (I don't know if there was any difference with those between Phase I and Phase II clones).  So yea.  Any help would be appreciated.

Again, this is kinda a project that's on the back burner, because Vader is my priority.  I did post the same thing on CT.net, but it seems like I get the same results there as I do on the SL detachment forum... everyone just looks and looks at it, or writes random comments that don't correlate to the topic I posted which offers no help.  lol

So I figured my best bet would be to ask you all since I tend to get a better reception form everyone in the garrison with stuff.  lol

Thanks!  Grin

Based on the file name, it looks like that picture is the back art from an Order 66 Two-Pack.  This would make it non-canon, so to get this version approved you would need two more sources.  I'm not sure of the 501st's stand point on the Clone Wars TV show, I believe RL counts it as canon, meaning the TV show is sufficent.  That being said, in 99% of the events (unless this group has changed A LOT in 2 years) no one will bat an eye if you wear that outfit, even if that isn't the pic you have on the web.

Yeah, thire the action figure has all the typical clone commander accessories.. you can get a RL and 501st designation of CT with just the basic shocktrooper gear though, and wear the extras when you want..

i'll pm you the better places to find the parts..

This is still in my mind to do.  lol

I've really been "focusing" on Vader these past few months, and being lazy.

But I still plan to do this.  I've gotten all the links from Joey and Hiro, so when the time comes maybe I can make this happen.

However, I must first do a few things to the Shock Trooper first.

The real killer... is the lower leg armor.  It's supposed to be seemless on the outside, and they recommend it be seemless on the inside.  I can't even get it to close.  However, I did find that I had it up too high, and so did Beth when she wore it.  The armor basically almost goes all the way down the back of the shoe to the sole... when it's down there, it's able to close almost all the way.  That being said, there's a lip on the lower part of that armor that curves inward, and as you can imagine, it hurts when it digs into my feet.  So I'll have to see about getting rid of that lip or whatever it it.

Also, Beth showed me something about a spoon insert.  Something about cutting the back of the lower calve out, so that it would be seemless on the inside, be able to slip your leg in, and then put the insert back in.  Anyone else know anything about this?  They even recommended that in the CRL (which I would assume they recommend for all clones).

The next thing is the thigh armor.  Currently I have to tie the belt down really really tight, to get it to stay dug into my stomach, for the armor to stay up where it should be.  I think I either need to have a second suspender system to keep them on (like I think a lot of the TK's and TD's do), or have it attached to the cod armor somehow.  Anyway, that shouldn't be anything too difficult.

Another thing I am wanting to do is fix the shoes/boots.  I know that a lot of people just put vinyl on the shoes to make them look like boots.  I believe Thad did this using something he and Dennis thought up?  Anyway, I think the shoe is just slightly too small and makes it very hard to get into.  Because the thighs are seemless, they are the first thing I have to put on.  And I have a hard enough time with the shin armor, and by the time I get to fiddling with those shoes, I was to take it all off.  lol

So does anyone know if there's a boot supplier out there that might make a TK like boot, except dull red??  I think that would make this part of the armor a lot more manageable.

Okay, so the big part of the project.  It seems that where the armor parts are "seemless," at the edges it's starting to split.  In fact I believe the upper thigh cracked so much that a peice actually broke off when Beth wore it.  So I need to kinda redo these areas and strengthen them up.  In addition, in some places... where the armor is glued/bondo-ed together, there's a yellow color around there.  Dunno what it is.  Thad told me the best thing to do was to sand that part and whether around that area.  I cannot use glue remover or anything like that because it's the OSCS armor?  I don't know if I got that name right or not.  And it's a poly something... I cannot remember what Thad told me, but basically a type of plastic that the glue be gone or whatever would eat through it.

So, since both of these as well as the "spoon" inserts on the shin armor, would make it almost impossible to match up paint an all that... "I'm" going to repaint the entire thing.  And in a way, that would kinda make it more of "my own".   Tongue

Then lastly there's the helmet.  I'm not exactly sure what the deal is with it, but I know it's not cast from an MR.  However, there is a tiny portion along the visor that could be removed to allow for more visibility (the gap is wider on the MR I have)... and then there's the visor itself.  I know that most clones have the visor inset on the helmet.  After carefully looking at the movie clips, in some scenes the visor is completely flush with the rest of the helmet, the others are inset ever so slightly.  I don't even know if this could really be done, but I do want to change it out anyway, since the current one is kinda wonky for visibility purposes.  I even noticed that while on mustafar, the shock troopers visors almost had a greenish glare to them.  Dunno if this was the atmosphere and setting and all that... It definitely wasn't as green as Gree's, but it wasn't black.  So that's something else I'm looking into.

Anyway... there's the update of what I'm wanting to do with the Shock trooper... hence why I'm trying to have a clone armor party in the next few months.   thumbs up

I've seen that setup before... a lot more work, but it looks fantastic.

as far as creating a flush visor, what if you used a self-hardening clay to get an exact outline of the visor opening, then created an L-shaped lip on the inside of the visor itself to make it flat to the front of the helmet?

Hmm.  That could work.  No idea how I'd do it.  But I like the idea.  haha

no man has ever had their way with Vader's junk and lived to tell the tale.

May the Force be with you, my friend.

Well... I suppose just let me know when you might be thinking of doing that.  I can host another Armor Party at my house if need be.

We're busy until September, though!   lol

I'm sure we can find a weekend before September.  lol  If not plan for a Saturday afternoon after trooping at WSMI one morning...
